AEW Dynamite, which featured an overrun, featured a Tag Team Championship main event on a very packed card. AEW President Tony Khan noted there will be much more focus on in-ring action for an AEW Dynamite that carried a pay-per-view feel.

“On TBS there’s a great history of pro wrestling and great wrestling specials,” Khan told Sirius XM’s “Busted Open Radio.”

“And they used to have two-hour Clash of the Champions specials, and you’d get a great night of pro wrestling. Tonight feels similar where you’ve got a stacked line-up. It’s going to be all action, great matches.”

“I think tonight will focus on big main event action. There will be some interviews in the show, but the way I have formatted there maybe aren’t as many long interviews you’d typically have, or not as much time allotted at least for people to talk. We’ll see if everybody sticks to those times. There’s a lot of time allotted for the matches.”

True to Khan’s words, there was not a single live promo on the show tonight.

CM Punk vs. Penta Oscuro

Penta Oscuro came out form behind a tombstone, but the tombstone had his own name on it. I don’t think Penta understands the concept of a tombstone.

Early on, the “Zero Miedo” chants were louder than the “CM Punk” chants.

CM Punk slipped off the top rope trying to give Penta Oscuro a hurricanrana, but this may have been done on purpose as he sold his injured knee throughout the match. Moments later, he hit a perfectly executed springboard clothesline, so maybe it was a legit mistake.

This was a fantastic opener with pay-per-view energy. Penta Oscuro deserves a big win sooner rather than later.

Jurassic Express def. reDRagon—AEW Tag Team Championship

Luchasaurus feels like such a bigger star than Jungle Boy, pillars be damned.

I was surprised that Jurassic Express pulled off this victory, as I thought the plan might have been to put the AEW World Tag Team Championships on reDRagon and the AEW World Heavyweight Championship on Adam Cole.

AEW abruptly cut away from FTR and reDRagon pushing and shoving like it was a TNA segment.

There were light “Shawn Dean” chants, which made me smile.

Shawn Dean’s sole purpose in AEW is to further MJF storylines by beating him on a technicality. I hope the next time Dean is in the ring with MJF, it results in a pinfall victory for Dean.

Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz

“Judas” has been certified as gold.

For somebody who had been walking around barefoot for the past hour, Angelo Parker’s feet were very clean.

Daniel Garcia got a major pinfall victory over Eddie Kingston after Chris Jericho used a baseball bat.

MJF’s big plan to stop Wardlow is The Butcher, who has barely been featured on television over the past several months.

Marina Shafir def. Skye Blue

Jade Cargill was unbothered backstage alongside Mark Sterling.

Tonight, the Baddie Section featured Kiera Hogan and Red Velvet.

I can’t even tell you who was in the ring for this match. I was too busy paying attention to Jade Cargill and the Baddie Section, and so were the AEW cameras.

Ricky Starks and Will Hobbs def. Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland

Ricky Starks was overcome with emotion after receiving a huge hometown reaction from New Orleans, La. Starks now seems to have two hometowns in Texas and Louisiana.

Swerve Scott performed a backflip off Keith Lee’s chest and it was every bit as amazing as it sounds.

I could have watched Ricky Starks wrestle in front of his hometown crowd of New Orleans for another hour.

Taz interfered in this match, and for a a second, I thought Tax was going to turn on Starks and Will Hobbs.

Surprisingly, Will Hobbs—not Ricky Starks—got the pinfall. Even more surprisingly, the pinfall was over Keith Lee.

Samoa Joe def. Minoru Suzuki

These two chopped and slapped the hell out of each other early in this match, and the crowd went nuts for it.

Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt’s surprise tonight was a middle finger from Lethal.

The lights went off and when they came back on, the giant Satnam Singh attacked Joe to complete silence, and them boos. This AEW fanbase, which is accustomed to smaller wrestlers flying around, is giantphobic, so he’s going to be hearing a lot of “green” comments over the next few weeks.
