Hollywood was out and about on the red carpet—and eco-friendly green carpet, as well—for each day and evening that led up to the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. Here is what you missed last week, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel to the Petersen Automotive Museum, and more, ahead of the 2022 Oscars.
Sunset nightclub at the West Hollywood EDITION Hotel
March 25
This hot new nightclub is where Chaka Khan and Lil Kim have been spotted, and it’s worth the visit to Sunset Strip just to see their sparkling ceiling of disco balls above the magical dance floor. Set inside the West Hollywood EDITION Hotel, which opened last fall. With a bustling playlist provided by DJ Ruckus and Pookie, the hotel’s director of culture Frank Roberts was the best party host, as many stars were spotted throughout the night. As part of the hotel’s Oscars bash, they held a lively party at their nightclub Sunset, which drew the likes of stars like Garcelle Beauvais, D-Nice, Legendary Damon and more, who danced into the wee hours.
Green Gala
March 26
The Petersen Automotive Museum held a green carpet for the Green Gala, an event co-hosted by environmental nonprofit, Energy Independence Now and Global Green USA. The green carpet was full of stars, actors and influencers who roamed the event throughout the night, before landing on the museum’s rooftop for dinner, dancing and speeches. James Bond actor George Lazenby was in attendance, as well as influencer Jordyn Woods, and actor Taja V. Simpson, known for her role as Priscilla Owens in the BET’s The Oval.
Oscar Wilde Awards
Inside the historic property of the Ebell of Los Angeles, the US-Ireland Alliance held their 16th annual Oscar Wilde Awards honoring Belfast director Kenneth Branagh, and Irish actor Dónall Ó Héalai, among others. King Richard director Reinaldo Marcus Green presented the “Wilde Card” Award to Ó Héalai.
When Green took the stage to talk about Ó Héalai’s performance in the film Arracht, he mentioned how Ó Héalai encouraged him as a friend to continue in his career as a filmmaker—even though he had student debt, and was close to giving up.
“I could talk about his accolades and all of the things he’s accomplished in his career but there is so much more to this person, there is so much more to who he is as a man, as a friend, as a collaborator, what he gives to his directors, there’s very few people you meet in this industry who have the heart that this man has,” said Green. “His Irish roots are everything to him, his home country, and what he stands for and the projects he’s a part of, is a testament to who he is as a person. He is an incredible artist and an incredible talent.”
Publicist’s Luncheon
March 25
At the International Cinematographers Guild’s Publicists Guild awards luncheon held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Godfather filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola was awarded a Guild’s lifetime achievement award. He arrived wearing a pin on his jacket of the American and Ukrainian flags.
During his acceptance speech, Variety reported that he made a plea for the Russian invasion to end, saying: “I know of what I speak when I say, if one word would just be said, one word with the force of meaning: Stop. It would [be] stop, because believe me, anyone who knows this, the difference between NATO and the Russian forces is 25 times greater. And, Putin is not an insane, deranged person. He is a calculating person and if someone said stop and meant that, he would stop.”
