After the shocking death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighters have announced the cancellation of all their scheduled 2022 concerts, including their highly anticipated headlining festival appearance at DWP’s Welcome To Rockville. The announcement comes from the band’s social media pages:
“It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins. We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”
The cancellation of all 2022 tour dates is not surprising, given the monumental role Hawkins had in Foo Fighters and the extent to which his passing has impacted the music industry at large. Countless celebrities, artists, and friends of Taylor Hawkins have expressed their condolences and high regards for the drummer, and recently the first lady Jill Biden even posted a statement mourning his loss.
“A ferocious drummer, dedicated father, and dear friend gone far too soon. Sending love to Taylor Hawkins’ family and fans of the Foo Fighters everywhere,” Biden tweeted.
To say the least, Hawkins’ impact on the world and rock community was immense. The sheer outpour of love and admiration for Taylor Hawkins ‘the person’ cannot be understated. In fact, just to outline how far reaching Hawkins was as a musician and person, here’s a statement via the rock outfit Shinedown that really drives the point home (posted March 26th):
“…. If you’ve ever wondered about the impact one human could make on an entire community
…. Look at your timeline today ….
It’s filled with this man … who was one of the nicest, coolest and most talented people on this earth ….
You’ll be sorely missed ….”
The exact cause of Taylor Hawkins death has not been shared.
