Nate Diaz Goes On Twitter And Requests The UFC End His Contract

UFC legend Nate Diaz wants out — or so he tweets.

Diaz tweeted at UFC president Dana White to be released from his exclusive terms with the organization. Take a glance:

Diaz, 36, issued the request on social media on Saturday. He also tagged the handles of the UFC and Hunter Campbell, the UFC’s chief business officer.

Diaz’s reps did not follow up with any additional remark. It was three days ago that Diaz hit the UFC with a tweet: “Been trying to fight for [seven] months.”

White has yet to call Diaz’s bluff, so it’s still unknown if Diaz will become a free agent.

Diaz is on the final fight of his UFC deal and has repeatedly hit up Twitter in search of an opponent — targeting welterweight contender Vicente Luque, lightweight veteran Tony Ferguson and former interim champion Dustin Poirier — but he’s yet to book his fight.

Poirier also has called for a legend vs. legend grudge match with Diaz but recently tweeted that he heard Diaz is retiring. So who knows?

The UFC and Diaz have reportedly had talks to extend his deal beyond the one fight he has left, but no agreement has been finalized.

A couple weeks back, White gave a “very good” estimation that the fight league would ink Diaz to a new contract.

Diaz (20-13) hasn’t fought in nine months since dropping a decision to welterweight Leon Edwards. He had expressed a desire to remain active after that fight but is now approaching his ninth month of inactivity.

This past fall, the UFC reportedly offered Diaz a bout with on-the-rise welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev (10-0). Diaz dissed that fight, citing Chimaev’s UFC inexperience. He told TMZ in December, “Don’t disrespect me like that, trying to offer me a fight with a rookie. Chimaev got his fight versus Gilbert Burns — the UFC’s No.-2 ranked welterweight — at UFC 273 on April 9.

Diaz’s has had fought exclusive terms with the UFC since 2007. He was discovered as a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter reality series and became insanely popular. His two-fight rivalry with Conor McGregor in 2016 is part of UFC lore.
