Today’s ‘Wordle’ Word Of The Day Answer #261: Monday, March 7th

Another Monday, another week, another Wordle to solve.

Today’s Wordle is far from the hardest we’ve seen, but I’m curious to see just how puzzling this puzzle is for players today. It’s not exactly a common word, but it’s not super rare, either. I can see it being a challenge for some, but so much depends on the guesses you make and how you reason forward from these guesses.

Every guess is a winding road.

In any case, let’s take a look at today’s word and a hint to help you solve the puzzle.

An Introduction to Wordle

Today’s Wordle Answer #261

You probably don’t need a spoiler warning since you’re reading a post that indicates, rather clearly, that this is about the Wordle answer for today’s puzzle #261, but I’m going to provide one anyways. Spoiler warning. You’ve been warned.

Before we get to the answer, a helpful hint:

Dragons tend to have these. Not to be confused with the Alliance’s sworn enemies.

And the answer is . . . .

Horde vs hoard. I’ve never really thought much about these two words. I’ve heard them both countless times but it never really occurred to me that they were so . . . nearly identical?

For whatever reason, even though I’ve known they were different words for as long as I can remember, I’ve just never really thought about how they mean such different things, but sound exactly the same. English is a weird language.

To get to ‘hoard’ I started with alone, which is a pretty good starting word since it includes three vowels. Toast make for delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner and worked well as guess #2, giving me ‘O’ and ‘A’ in green and ruling out two very common letters.

Roach is Geralt of Rivia’s horse in The Witcher 3 video game, and you know I have to get my video game references in one way or another! And roach turned out to be a pretty good guess, actually. Now I knew the word had to start with an ‘H’ (what is the likelihood of it being the second to last letter?) and the only word with ‘H’ in the first spot and an O, A and R in it that I could think of was hoard.

Not horde, mind you, but hoard. A horde of monsters guarded the tower filled with the dragon’s hoard.

And that’s all folks! Peace!
