As TWICE came off stage from a seven-song encore at New York’s UBS Arena this past weekend, the K-pop girl group secured their place in the U.S. touring history books.
With the successful completion of the seven-date U.S. leg of the “III” World Tour, TWICE now becomes the first female K-pop act to hold two separate arena tours in the world’s biggest music market. The ninesome previously visited the States for their 2019 “TWICELIGHTS” Tour included that had three arena shows at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena, Newark’s Prudential Center, and The Forum in Los Angeles. This latest run included seven concerts including two dates at The Forum, stops at the Oakland Arena, Forth Worth’s Dickies Arena, Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, as well as two sold-out dates at the UBS Arena. Originally, only one date for LA and NY were announced, but second shows were quickly added to both cities added due to high demand after the sellout.
This marks the first time a female K-pop act has been able to stage multiple runs in American arenas. To date, 2NE1 and BLACKPINK are the only female groups to have also held arena tours but have yet to return stateside for subsequent shows. As an additional comparison, TWICE is also only the fifth-ever K-pop act to hold multiple arena tours among all artists.
According to a report from TWICE’s label JYP Entertainment, the seven dates brought out an audience of approximately 100,000 fans. The group’s previous 2019 trek had reportedly brought out more than 28,000 fans.
TWICE’s latest performances in the “III” World Tour included their chart-topping viral hits like “The Feels” and “I Can’t Stop Me,” fan-favorite B-sides like “Queen” and “Cactus,” plus the first performances of the new trio songs “Push & Pull” “Hello,” and “1, 3, 2” that allowed them to spotlight three members at a time. Like the “TWICELIGHTS” tour, the girl group brought out a jaw-dropping production that included towering LED light displays, multi-tiered platforms, and a lengthy runway that let the group utilize multiple ways to showcase their songs in a slew of different experiences that aren’t able to be witnessed through a live stream or YouTube.
TWICE’s “III” Tour will continue to Japan next month when the group plays the Tokyo Dome on April 23 and 24, marking their second time playing the famous indoor stadium.
