It should come as no surprise that Adele’s 30 has been named the bestselling vinyl album in the world in 2021, as the British singer-songwriter can sell music like no one else in the music industry. The star’s return to the top of the charts has been placed at No. 1 on IFPI’s (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) first-ever list of the vinyl records that sold the most copies all around the globe.
The list of the bestselling vinyl albums in the world in 2021 is a healthy mix of current pop stars and legendary rockers, with young fans seemingly playing a larger part in snapping up the format than ever before.
Former One Direction rocker Harry Styles sees his 2019 sophomore album Fine Line come in at No. 2, only missing out on the throne as nobody was going to beat Adele. It’s impressive that someone so young can rank so high, and with a title that’s now years old, and it speaks to the incredible popularity of both Styles and Fine Line.
Behind two relatively new releases comes one that has been out for decades. Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours lands at No. 3, which is an incredible placement for a set that has already been selling for so many years.
Rounding out the upper half of the top 10 on IFPI’s ranking are two of the most successful women in pop, with Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour and Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever settling in at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Amazingly, both stars are under the age of 21.
The lower half of the new and highly competitive tally features rock bands that largely haven’t been active in decades, including The Beatles (Abbey Road, No. 7), Nirvana (Nevermind, No. 8) and Pink Floyd (The Dark Side Of The Moon, No. 9). Taylor Swift is the only artist who fills more than one space inside the 10-spot list, as her recent efforts Red (Taylor’s Version) and Evermore settle at Nos. 6 and 10, respectively.
