A while back, the U.K High Court ruled that Wikileaks founder and whistleblower Julian Assange could be extradited to the USA. Since then, activists world over have come forward to express their anger and stand in solidarity with Assange. What’s more, a group of crypto-lovers think they can help too.
A DAO or die approach
AssangeDAO is a community of self-identified “cypherpunks” trying to raise ETH in exchange for the $JUSTICE governance token. The DAO wants to bid on an NFT made with Assange so that proceeds can be used to help the whistleblower mount his legal defense against the extradition.
At press time, about 12,614 ETH or $39,096,462.30 had been raised. The DAO is using Juicebox, a programmable treasury favored by ConstitutionDAO when it was bidding on an original edition of the U.S. Constitution.
Furthermore, AssangeDAO overtook ConstitutionDAO on Juicebox, when going by the ETH prices at press time.
AssangeDAO is now the largest JuiceBox DAO raise in History exceeding that of ConstitutionDAO.
Congrats everyone this seriously exceeded our wildest expectations!#FreeAssangeNOW pic.twitter.com/MqhZv6CWTK

DAO you have what it takes?
The news of AssangeDAO comes days after the popular crowdfunding donation site GoFundMe removed the campaign to support the Canadian “Freedom Convoy 2022.” However, some individuals are reportedly trying to support truckers who are protesting vaccine mandates by sending them crypto-donations instead.
Add AssangeDAO to the mix and we have what could be a change in the way protestors worldwide decide to fund their movement and bypass censors. What’s more formidable is that AssangeDAO started coming together on 10 December 2021. In essence, it has raised close to $40 million in less than two months.
But, here comes the catch. AssangeDAO claimed it was inspired by ConstitutionDAO to use Juicebox. However, memories of the close to $1 million paid in gas fees by ConstitutionDAO members just to send in donations are still fresh. What’s more, when ConstitutionDAO failed to win, those who wanted refunds were hit with extravagant gas fees yet again. Keeping this in mind, why did AssangeDAO go out of its way to choose Ether for its fundraiser?
Pulling yourself to Ether
At the time of writing, the top alt was burning pockets at $3,085.17. Ether rose by 2.49% over the last 24 hours, having rallied by 22.97% in the past week.
