Trump Says Iran Has Asked for Ceasefire, Bitcoin Spikes

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the Iranian president has asked for a ceasefire in the Iran war, a statement that caused the Bitcoin price to spike. This comes as the president’s latest deadline for the U.S. to strike Iran’s energy infrastructure approaches.

Trump Says Iranian President Has Asked For Ceasefire In Iran War

In a Truth Social post, the U.S. president said that Iran’s “New Regime President” has asked America for a ceasefire. He added that they will only consider when the Strait of Hormuz is “open, free, and clear.”

Until then, Trump said that they will keep “blasting Iran into oblivion,” signaling that the Iran war could still drag on if Iran refuses to reopen the Strait. It is worth noting that the U.S. president already gave Iran until April 6 to reopen the Hormuz Strait or have the U.S. strike its energy infrastructure.

Trump’s statement comes just a day after the Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, said that Iran is ready to end the war as long as they get guarantees. Iran has requested that the U.S. recognize its sovereignty over the Hormuz Strait as part of its conditions to end the war.

Meanwhile, Trump said yesterday that the Strait will automatically reopen once the Iran war ends. He gave a timeline of two to three weeks for when the war could end. The U.S. president also noted that they had achieved their mission of ensuring that Iran doesn’t have a nuclear weapon.

Bitcoin rose sharply on the back of Trump’s Truth Social post, reaching around $68,600, according to TradingView data. As CoinGape reported earlier, BTC, ETH, XRP, and other top cryptos rose today after the UAE said it was ready to join the U.S. and its allies to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. To Be Out “Pretty Quickly”

Trump also mentioned to Reuters that the U.S. is going to be out of Iran “pretty quickly,” signaling that the Iran war could end sooner rather than later. He said that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, nor do they want to have one.

The U.S. president also claimed that they have had a full regime change in Iran, which was initially one of their objectives. He added that they still have some targets left and that if they have to, they will come back to hit those spots.

It is worth noting that Trump will address the nation at 9 pm ET tonight, where he plans to deliver an “important update on Iran.” It remains unclear exactly what the president plans to say, but any further hints of a ceasefire in the Iran war could boost crypto prices.

Crypto traders continue to bet against a ceasefire anytime soon, despite hints of one from Trump. There is currently only a 37% chance of a U.S.-Iran ceasefire by April 30, according to Polymarket data.
