24/5 Stock and ETF Trading Goes Live

All eligible U.S. users can now buy and sell stocks and ETFs on Coinbase with zero commission on trades. Trading is available 24 hours a day, five days a week for supported symbols.

More than 8,000 securities are available at the initial launch in Coinbase Capital Markets, which is a FINRA and SIPC member broker-dealer. Fractional shares allow trading with as little as USD or USDC, and users can fund trades instantly.

This structure is similar to what crypto traders are expecting: operating nearly 24/7, minimum deposit and smooth funding. Crypto and stocks are represented in the same dashboard, therefore users do not need to open separate brokerage accounts. Coinbase said that it will expand 24/5 trading to thousands more equities in the coming months.

Toward Tokenized Equities and Global Expansion

Coinbase expects to continue implementing tokenized stocks in the future and aiming to bring stocks on blockchain (tokenization). The leading crypto company said that tokenized assets can allow users to utilize stocks as collateralized assets based on blockchain while reducing transaction payment time.

Beyond the U.S., Coinbase is looking to develop stock perpetual products in Coinbase Bermuda pending regulatory approval. U.S. persons will not be able to get such products. The introduction of equities as its fundamental offering is moving Coinbase to become a multi-asset platform where clients can trade both crypto and conventional securities.
