On Thursday, Jan 29, Status Network, the first Ethereum L2 with gas-free transactions at scale, announced the launch of USS Status, a satirical sci-fi cartoon that turns crypto’s chaotic past into comedy.
According to the announcement, the development also includes the launch of a unified privacy super-app and a gasless L2 network. The development comes as Status seeks to continue advancing the DeFi ecosystem.
Status Back to Spotlight With Groundbreaking Debuts
Following efforts to make privacy accessible to everyone across the crypto space, Status, the open-source privacy super-app, has launched an overhauled unified app, a gasless L2 network, and a new identity personified in an irreverent, satirical web cartoon.
Building on its unique mechanism, Status has continued to advance within the Ethereum ecosystem, quietly developing an open-source platform that integrates a secure crypto wallet, a privacy messenger, and a web browser into a single application.
 
With over eight years since its emergence, Status has weathered ICO mania, regulatory whiplash, centralised exchange collapses, memecoin cycles, and repeated attempts to rebuild the internet with better primitives.
Nonetheless, the project has established a new mission that seeks to make privacy accessible to everyone following a major upgrade to its platform.
Introducing USS Status
Per the announcement, Status revealed it will launch USS Status, an animated web series that follows a crew of meme misfits navigating a chaotic galaxy plagued by surveillance, centralisation, and poor governance.
The launch will celebrate the renewal of its app and the upcoming rollout of Status Network.
Speaking on the development, Volodymy Hulchenko, Status App Lead, said;
“Over the past decade, crypto has traded its sense of fun and freedom for market hype and profit-first narratives…USS Status is our way of laughing at the chaos while reminding people that it’s still possible to build tools that defend privacy, free speech, and digital freedom – without losing the cypherpunk spirit that started it all.”
The announcement further revealed that the USS Status fictional spaceship runs on the Ethereum blockchain (for now), and uses the same tech built into the Status privacy super-app that’s available today.
Status, on the other hand, allows users to chat, transact, and browse privately – all in one place, and they’ve just launched a new unified app for mobile and desktop.
Moreover, they’re not the only team building a super-app; however, their focus is on providing unrivaled privacy through Logos’ peer-to-peer messaging technology (formerly Whisper) and decentralised smart contracts.
It is also important to note that the app features anonymous profiles, a built-in multi-chain crypto wallet with swaps, end-to-end encrypted messaging, censorship-resistant Community spaces, and a privacy-preserving web browser.
Status Network Sets to Launch
Furthermore, Status announced plans to launch its Status Network, the world’s first natively gasless L2 blockchain.
The Status Network, built on the zkEVM Linea stack, eliminates gas fees with a reputation-based Karma system funded by native yield, enabling gasless private accounts.
