A few significant recent injuries have shaken up the fantasy basketball landscape. Some players have seen their stock rise as a result of those injuries, while others have become difficult to roster based on their recent production. Here are the top fantasy basketball risers and fallers to keep in mind for your waiver wire claims, lineup decisions, and roster strategy.
Fantasy Basketball Risers
Ryan Rollins, G, Milwaukee Bucks
Last week, Rollins was in the fallers section of this column. However, the recommendation was to hold onto him as he is one injury away from a leading role again. That injury happened over the last week with Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) going down. With him and Kevin Porter Jr. (oblique) both likely out for multiple weeks, Rollins is now the best remaining scoring option on the Bucks.
Cam Spencer, G, Memphis Grizzlies
Ja Morant (elbow) is hurt again. This time, he is expected to miss at least three weeks. We have already seen Spencer thrive while filing in for Morant. Across 12 starts, Spencer has averaged 11.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists and 1.9 three-pointers. He is only rostered in 30% of Yahoo leagues, so add him now while you still can.
Grayson Allen, G, Phoenix Suns
Jalen Green has battled with a hamstring injury for the majority of the season. Now, Devin Booker (ankle) is out for at least one week. With those two compromised, the Suns will need more production from Allen. In Sunday’s loss to the Heat, Allen produced 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists with Booker and Green out. His stat line could have been even better if he didn’t shoot just 1-for-11 from three. Until the Suns’ health situation improves, Allen has significantly more fantasy upside.
Fantasy Basketball Fallers
Jay Huff, C, Indiana Pacers
Huff has bounced in and out of the starting lineup this season. When he receives significant playing time, he has been a good source for three-pointers and blocks. However, the Pacers recently decided to move him back to the bench again. In their last two games, he played a total of only five minutes. Jarace Walker has played well starting in his place, so Huff could remain in a limited role for the immediate future.
Quentin Grimes, G, Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers have been mostly healthy lately, which has resulted in Grimes seeing fewer minutes. While he averages 31 minutes for the season, he has averaged 23 minutes over his last eight games. That left him with muted averages of 8.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. It might take a couple of injuries to his teammates for Grimes to be worth starting in fantasy again.
Cam Thomas, G, Brooklyn Nets
Thomas has not logged more than 25 minutes in any of his 12 games since returning from injury. With a limited role in hand, he only averaged 12.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 three-pointers during that span. The Nets seem content playing him limited minutes off the bench. They are trying to rack up losses to improve their draft lottery odds, so Thomas is someone to drop in fantasy.
Takeaway
Rollins, Spencer, and Allen are all on the rise in fantasy basketball. Huff, Grimes, and Thomas are all heading in the opposite direction, with Huff and Thomas being drop candidates in most leagues.
