FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick took aim at the camp of first team star Dro Fernandez in a prematch press conference to preview Sunday’s away trip at Real Sociedad in La Liga.
Before the weekend, news broke that Dro had told Flick he will leave in the January transfer window because an as of yet unnamed European club being set to trigger his $7 million release clause.
SPORT and Mundo Deportivo reported this news, and the former then added that Flick had suffered “the biggest disappoint of my life” through a youngster he gave a first team debut to turning his back on the club.
At a prematch press conference to preview Sunday’s away trip to Anoeta, Flick was naturally broached on the topic and said: “I don’t want to answer because as a coach we give energy and confidence to the players, so that they develop. But there are people around him… I want to wait until it’s a thing of the past. If he leaves, we talk about it, but not yet.”
Once again needled to remark on the matter near the end of his sitdown before the local media, Flick said: “The situation, today, is that the players are here. Dro’s [deal] is not closed, I won’t answer. Things happen in football. You may disagree, but they are 18-year-old, adult players who make decisions. And there are adults who can incite them… I’ve said enough.”
FC Barcelona coach Flick remain tight-lipped on Ter Stegen too
Regarding Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has reportedly agreed to join Girona, Flick said: “His future is his decision. He is experienced and knows what he wants. We have talked a lot, and I’ve spoken with Deco. I have no more information about him and Girona.”
“He’s our captain, he’s one of the idols of the club and one of the most important players in recent years. We will accept what he decides,” Flick added.
FC Barcelona should expect a tough test at Real Sociedad
In one of Spain’s most hostile atmospheres for away teams, Flick said that Barca will “face a tough game”.
“They have fantastic players and they are confident. But we want to win LaLiga and the game,” Flick said.
“I’ve seen that they have more confidence, after the two wins and the draw. I know the coach well, we live very close, in the same part of Germany. I’ll be glad to see him,” the manager concluded on this.
FC Barcelona vs. Real Sociedad will kick off at 21.00 local time in Spain.
