One Battle After Another, Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest film from director Paul Thomas Anderson, was named the Best Film of 2025 by the New York Film Critics Circle on Tuesday.
The NYFCC honor marks the film’s second big win of the 2025-26 awards season, which kicked off Monday night in New York with The Gotham Awards.
One Battle After Another was named Best Feature at the Gothams, while Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi won Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature for It Was Just an Accident. Other big winners at the Gothams included Sopé Dìrísù for Best Performance for My Father’s Shadow and Wunmi Mosaku for Outstanding Supporting Performance for Sinners.
Panani was also named Best Director by the NYFCC, while Wagner Moura won for Best Actor for The Secret Agent and Rose Byrne took Best Actress honors for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Benicio Del Toro was named Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another by the NYFCC, while Amy Madigan won for Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.
The Netflix animated musical sensation KPop Demon Hunters also won its first big award this awards season, for Best Animated Feature.
