Disney’s “Zootopia 2” dominated the domestic box office over Thanksgiving weekend, grossing $156 million according to early estimates reported by the Hollywood trade publications, to become the second-biggest Thanksgiving opening of all time.

The Disney animated film became the second-biggest Thanksgiving weekend opening of all time, behind only “Moana 2,” which grossed $225 million over 2024’s Thanksgiving, also for Disney.

“Zootopia 2” also brought in an estimated $556 million overseas, according to multiple reports, including a record-breaking $272 million in China, Variety reported.

“Zootopia 2” beat out another Disney animated film for the second place slot for Thanksgiving performance—”Frozen 2,” which grossed $125 million over the long Thanksgiving weekend in 2019.

The sequel to 2016’s “Zootopia” outpaced the original film’s opening, which became a hit for Disney with a $75 million domestic opening weekend—but it remains to be seen if it can gross more than the $1 billion worldwide earnings of the 2016 film at the box office.

The animated children’s feature seems to be a hit with audiences, earning an A CinemaScore based on post-screening surveys and a 95% approval rating with viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wicked’s Second Weekend

“Wicked: For Good,” the second part of the beloved Broadway musical turned feature film, posted a solid second weekend after grossing an estimated $93 million over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, down from a $147 million opening last weekend. Although those are solid sales for the massively popular musical, they are slightly diminished from the first iteration’s performance last year. The first part of “Wicked” grossed $118 million over the five-day holiday weekend.
