Ethereum (ETH) founder Vitalik Buterin has made a remarkable on-chain move as the ETH price has surged back above the $3,000 level.
According to the data, Buterin transferred approximately $2.9 million worth of ETH to the privacy-focused protocol Railgun. Such transactions to Railgun typically lead to the possibility of a subsequent sale, so the transfer has been closely monitored by market participants.
The price of ETH has increased by over 5% in the last 24 hours, reaching $3,032. This rally has rekindled investor risk appetite, despite Ethereum still being down over 38% from its all-time high of $4,953 in August 2025. The timing of this transfer, coinciding with the price reaching a critical threshold, has fueled further speculation.
An examination of Buterin’s on-chain assets reveals his total wealth to be around $738.6 million. He holds 240,002 ETH in his main wallet, currently valued at approximately $727.46 million. He also holds an additional position of 2,921 AETHWETH, worth $8.83 million, and smaller holdings of 10 billion WHITE tokens, worth approximately $1.26 million.
