The Skins Game Is Set To Return On Black Friday: What To Know

It’s been 17 years since golf fans last tuned in for what the PGA Tour proudly billed as The Skins Game. First teeing off in 1983 and running through 2008, the made-for-TV event served as a stylish bridge between one season’s finish and the next season’s first swing. Now, the Skins Game is returning in a refreshed, modern format and making its comeback on Black Friday.

Over the years, the exhibition drew legends like Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples, Tom Watson, Payne Stewart, and Tiger Woods, ensuring the spotlight never dimmed. The 2025 revival aims to carry that same star-driven energy, offering the perfect post-Thanksgiving escape for golf fans settling in for a long holiday weekend.

Who is Playing?

The four man roster is made up by: 2025 United States Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley, 2025 Fed Ex Champion Tommy Fleetwood, 2 time major winner Xander Schauffele, and replacing Justin Thomas due to back surgery, Ryder Cup hero Shane Lowry.

How to Watch?

Streaming Friday exclusively on Amazon Prime Video at 9 am Eastern Time. Andrew Catalon, Colt Knost, and Dan Rapaport will make up the broadcast team.

What is the Format?

Every hole is worth 1 point or “skin.” The player with the lowest score on hole, wins the skin (or point). However, if two or more players tie for the lowest score on the hole, it carries over to the next hole. Since it carries over, that hole is now worth 2 skins and so on. For this edition of The Skins Game, there’s also a “reverse purse.” Instead of starting at $0, Schauffele, Fleetwood, Bradley, and Lowry will each begin the event with $1 million.

Chadd Mumm who is the man behind this event, wanted to put a spin on it.

“The most notable new element we are bringing to the classic Skins Game is this notion of the reverse purse, which came out of a conversation that I had with a player competing in this Skins Game about how to create more stakes in the moment for the guys out on the course. We think the twist of having the players each starting with $1 million and having their totals go up and down as Skins are won and lost will make the pressure in the moment feel even more tangible than it would with them all starting at zero.”
