If Carey’s 1994 Christmas hit rises to No. 1 again, it’ll be the 19th week “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has spent at the top, which would tie Carey for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 of all time.
Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus set the all-time record of 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with their rap-country hit “Old Town Road” in 2019, which Shaboozey tied five years later with his own country smash “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
Carey could hold the record alone if she notches a 20th week at No. 1; during the 2024 holiday season, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” ranked No. 1 on the Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks.

If “All I Want For Christmas Is You” beats Lil Nas X and Shaboozey’s record for most weeks atop the Hot 100, Carey will reclaim a record she previously held for more than two decades. Her song “One Sweet Day” featuring Boyz II Men spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 between 1995 and 1996, which at the time was the most weeks ever spent atop the chart. They held this record alone for 21 years until Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber tied with “Despacito,” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 in 2017, and until “Old Town Road” broke the record outright in 2019.
