Stars At Oscars’ 2025 Governors Awards Black Carpet Ceremony

Sydney Sweeney, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Emily Blunt, Dwayne Johnson, Jeremy Allen White and several other Oscar hopefuls attended the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 16th Governors Awards Sunday night in Los Angeles to honor the 2025 recipients of AMPAS’ Honorary Oscars.

The ceremony lauded four movie industry titans — Tom Cruise, Debbie Allen, Dolly Parton and Wynn Thomas — for their lifetime contributions to the craft. Cruise, Allen and Thomas will each receive Honorary Oscars, while Parton will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, which is also an Oscar statuette.

While AMPAS’ Governors Awards take place months before the organization’s annual Oscar ceremony, each of the recipients will be recognized at the 98th Academy Awards ceremony, which is set for March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles.

Tom Cruise, Debbie Allen and Wynn Thomas gathered for a photo after receiving their Honorary Oscars. Dolly Parton was unable to attend the ceremony because of health issues.

Cynthia Erivo is in the running for Best Actress for Wicked: For Good this awards season. Erivo was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for playing Elphaba at the 97th Academy Awards for 2024’s Wicked earlier this year.

Ariana Grande is in the running for Best Supporting Actress for Wicked: For Good. Grande was nomimated for Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing Glinda at the 97th Academy Awards for 2024’s Wicked earlier this year.

The Smashing Machine stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Emily Blunt and Benny Safdie attended AMPAS’ 16th Governors Awards. Johnson is vying for Best Actor accolades this awards season, while Blunt is in the running for Best Supporting Actress and Safdie is vying for Best Director honors.

Sydney Sweeney is in the running for Best Actress this awards season for her role as real-life female boxing icon Christy Martin in Christy.

Chase Inifiti is in the running for Best Actress honors this awards season for playing Willa, the daughter of washed-up revolutionary Bob (Leonardo DiCaprio) in One Battle After Another.

One Battle After Another Best Actor hopeful (and The Revenant Oscar winner) Leonardo DiCaprio was also on the carpet for the 16th Governors Awards.

Ryan Coogler and his wife, Zinzi Coogler, attended the 16th Governors Awards. Ryan is in the running for several honors this awards season for his vampire thriller Sinners, including Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Both Ryan and Zinzi Coogler are also in the running for Best Picture honors as producers of Sinners.

Sinners Best actor hopeful Michael B. Jordan also attended the Governors Awards ceremony.

Frankenstein Best Supporting Actor contender Jacob Elordi also attended the Governors Awards ceremony. Elordi plays the Creature in writer-director Guillermo del Toro’s big-screen adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel.

Frankenstein star Oscar Isaac also attended the Governors Awards Ceremony. Isaac is vying for Best Actor honors this awards season for playing Dr. Victor Frankenstein.

Mia Goth is in the running for Best Supporting Actress honors this awards season for playing the dual roles of Claire Frankenstein/Elizabeth Harlander in Frankenstein.

Black Swan Best Actress Oscar winner Natalie Portman attended the 16th Governors Ball celebration. Portman voices the role of Mary Muggle-Wump in the Best Animated Feature awards season hopeful The Twits.

Jeremy Allen White is contending for Best Actor honors this awards season for playing Bruce Springsteen in The Boss’ biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.

Jennifer Lopez is vying for Best Supporting Actress honors this awards season for playing Ingrid Luna/Aurora/The Spider Woman in the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Kiss of the Spiderwoman.

The Silver Linings Playbook Best Actress Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is in the running for Best Actress honors this awards season for her role as Grace in Die My Love.
