Wicked: One Wonderful Night, a special event featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande and other stars from Wicked: For Good, premieres on free TV and streaming this week.
The staging of Wicked: One Wonderful Night comes about two weeks before the theatrical release of Wicked: For Good, the hotly anticipated second half of Wicked, which was released in theaters in November of 2024. The film went on to become a worldwide blockbuster in theaters worldwide and was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture. Best Actress for Erivo and Best Supporting Actress for Grande.
A prequel tale to The Wizard of Oz, Wicked and Wicked: For Good star Erivo as Elphaba, who is destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West, while Grande plays Glinda, who will become the Good Witch of the North.
The official summary for the TV event reads, “Wicked: One Wonderful Night will transform the legendary venue into a breathtaking Emerald City-inspired set, complete with a 37-piece live orchestra led by the award-winning musical director Stephen Oremus, plus jaw-dropping musical numbers and unforgettable performances.”
A two-hour event, Wicked: One Wonderful Night will air on NBC-TV on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will begin streaming on NBC Universal’s streaming platform on Friday, Nov. 7.
While no specific start time has been announced for Wicked: One Wonderful Night on Peacock, new shows generally — but not always — begin streaming on the platform at 5 a.m. ET/2 a.m. PT on the day of the program’s premiere.
Who Else Will Appear During The ‘Wicked: One Wonderful Night’ Special Event?
In addition to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, NBC announced that Wicked: One Wonderful Night will also feature Wicked and Wicked: For Good stars Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), Ethan Slater (Boq), Marissa Bode (Nessarose) and Bowen Yang (Pfannee).
Wicked and Wicked: For Good director Jon M. Chu, Wicked composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz and “surprise guests” will also appear during the event, NBC noted.
NBC also teased that “world premiere clips” from Wicked: For Good will be shown during the Wicked: One Wonderful Night special featuring two new original songs by Schwartz.
Wicked: For Good opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, Nov. 21.
