Ancient 4,000 BTC Miner Wallet Awakens
The wallet, identified as “18eY9o,” transferred 150 BTC, worth roughly $16.6 million, to another unlabeled address on Thursday in a single transaction, analysis tool Lookonchain said in an X post citing data from Arkham Intelligence.
“These 4,000 BTC were mined in 2009 and consolidated into wallet 18eY90 in 2011,” Lookonchain wrote.
The unknown whale received the 4,000 Bitcoin after mining between April and June 2009, only a few months after the BTC blockchain network went live. This 4,000 Bitcoin haul was valued at approximately $16,400 on Oct. 24, 2011, after being consolidated into the wallet.
The world’s largest and oldest crypto was trading hands at about $110,914 at publication time, which would make the whales’ entire stash worth over $442 million.

The wallet is considered to be “Satoshi-era” since it dates back to the earliest days of the alpha crypto’s existence. During this time, Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, was still active on online forums from late 2009 to 2011.
OG Whales On The Move
Several BTC wallets from that era have been active since the start of 2025 after the crypto crossed the symbolic $100,000 milestone. In July, over 80,000 BTC from an ancient Bitcoin whale inactive since 2011 — worth more than $9 billion at the time — was sold via Galaxy Digital as part of the investor’s estate planning.
After holding onto their stashes for over a decade, multiple other long-dormant whale addresses were seen transferring millions in Bitcoin last month to take advantage of the significantly higher prices.
Some pundits have also cited growing concerns over quantum computing and its potential threat to early BTC addresses as the potential reason why older coins were suddenly reactivating.
