Zach Cregger Got Advice From An A-List Director While Working On ‘Weapons’
Weapons marks writer-director Zach Cregger’s second feature film after he made his debut in 2022 with the acclaimed horror thriller Barbarian.
One of the people Cregger thanks in the end credits of Weapons is David Fincher, the A-list director behind such acclaimed movie hits as Fight Club, Se7en, The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
“He’s just a very helpful guy. He was available to me during prep, and then he was very available during the post process,” Cregger told Variety after the film was released in August.
“He watched the movie and had a lot of really constructive thoughts and gave me a ton of ideas,” Cregger added. “He helped me learn more about the editing process and how to think about it in a new way that wasn’t available to me when I was making Barbarian. So, he just opened my mind up a lot.”
Weapons, which is still playing in theaters, has earned $151.4 million in domestic ticket sales and nearly $115.6 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $267 million.
The film had a $38 million production budget before prints and advertising, The Numbers reported.
Weapons also earned a 93% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 371 reviews and an 85% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 10,000-plus verified user ratings.
Weapons arrives on HBO Max on Friday and HBO linear on Saturday, beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
