Leigh-Anne Is ‘Dead And Gone’ On New Single

It’s been a breakout year for the former stars of British girl group Little Mix. Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock have been launching their solo careers with their debut studio albums. Thirlwall and Edwards released their respective first albums last month, and Pinnock isn’t far behind, with her album My Ego Told Me To arriving early next year.

Leigh-Anne gave a first taste of her forthcoming LP in July with the single “Been a Minute.” She followed it up the following month with “Burning Up,” and now she’s back with “Dead and Gone,” the latest piece of her first full-length project.

“The funny thing is / You’re only someone when somebody kills you / A murder scene leave her dead and gone,” she sings on the track. “Lift your hand to the sky / Baby, you know time keeps on passing by / No more, better behave, throw the dirt on the grave / No, she can’t be saved.”

After announcing herself as a solo artist in 2023, Leigh-Anne jumped straight into album-release mode, releasing the singles “Don’t Say Love” and “My Love.” She chose to pivot, though, instead opting to release her debut solo EP No Hard Feelings last May. “I thought I’d release three singles and go straight into dropping it,” she told Dork last year. “As the process went on, though, I just felt like I wasn’t ready for the album.”

“I think for so long I’ve been trying to find my sound and something that’s like my lane, just something unique to me, and I just really feel like I’ve finally found that, and it was just the best feeling writing that song in that moment,” she said of the track ahead of its release. “All of that frustration is sort of coming through in this song, and it’s all about killing off this version of me that I don’t feel like is serving me in this industry anymore.”

With “Dead and Gone,” Leigh-Anne again showcases her ability to stand on her own as an artist and performer. Now that she’s fully in charge of her creative output, the album will reflect that power.

The album is coming together with Leigh-Anne trusting in herself and not letting outside worries get to her about the release. “I definitely feel like it’s there, and I’m excited for it to finally come out. The pressure has been taken off a little bit now, though, and I feel a lot more comfortable about it,” she told Dork. “This record is me stripping some of those layers away and just being open about my story. It’s scary, but I hope it allows people to come into my world more.”

“To be at the beginning of something new is just so exciting,” she said.

My Ego Told Me To is set for release Feb. 20.
