The Strangers: Chapter 2, the sequel to the 2024 slasher horror hit The Strangers: Chapter 1, is reportedly coming to digital streaming this week.
Rated R, The Strangers: Chapter 2 opened in theaters on Sept. 26. The official summary for The Strangers: Chapter 2 reads, “The Strangers are back – more brutal and relentless than ever. When they learn that one of their victims, Maya (Madelaine Petsch), is still alive, they return to finish what they’ve started.
“With nowhere to run and no one to trust, Maya must survive another horrific chapter of terror as The Strangers – driven by a senseless, unceasing purpose – pursue her, more than willing to kill anyone who stands in their way.
Directed by The Strangers: Chapter 1 filmmaker Renny Harlin, The Strangers: Chapter 2 also stars Gabriel Basso and Ema Horvath.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 is expected to arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Oct. 14, according to When to Stream. While When to Stream is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, the streaming tracker noted that The Strangers Chapter 2’s studio, Lionsgate, has not announced or confirmed the release date and it is subject to change.
When The Strangers: Chapter 2 arrives on PVOD, it will be available on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Prime Video currently has The Strangers: Chapter 2 listed for pre-order for purchase for $24.99. Since digital rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect the film to be available for rent for $19.99 for 48 hours.
How Was ‘The Strangers: Chapter 2’ Received By Audiences And Critics?
The Strangers: Chapter 2 has to date earned nearly $13.5 million domestically and $1.7 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $15.2 million. The film had a production budget of $8.5 million before prints and advertising costs, according to The Numbers.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 earned a 15% “rotten” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 68 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “A tired and tensionless slog, Chapter 2 squanders its potential for suspense with lazy storytelling, predictable scares, and a complete misunderstanding of what makes The Strangers so terrifying.”
The film was better received by audiences on RT, who gave it a 55% “rotten” rating based on 500-plus verified user ratings. The RT audience summary for the film reads, “While not quite the ride-or-die friend you might have hoped for, The Strangers: Chapter 2 is solidly acted and delivers enough tension to satisfy fans of the jump-scare chase.”
The Strangers: Chapter 2 is expected to debut on PVOD on Tuesday.
