The Thanksgiving Skins Game returns this year after a 17-year hiatus, featuring Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Tommy Fleetwood, and Xander Schauffele at Panther National in Florida being played on Friday November 28.
While maintaining the skins format, where each hole carries a set dollar value and tied holes roll over, the new version introduces a reverse purse concept designed to heighten the drama. Each player will start with $1 million on the scoreboard, with totals based on performance. Players can add to their million dollars or have it evaporate, creating real-time financial consequences for every shot.
The first Skins Game was held in 1983, featuring legends Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, and Gary Player battling it out over Thanksgiving at Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event continued through 2008, marking a 25-year run before waning interest, despite Tiger Woods’ participation, led to its cancellation in 2009.
Charlie Neiman, Head of Sports Partnerships at Prime Video, said, “We’re thrilled to help relaunch the Skins Game as part of an unprecedented day of live sports on Prime Video this Black Friday.”
The relaunch follows a broader trend in golf of reviving classic formats. The Match, which debuted in 2018 featuring Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson at Shadow Creek, is widely seen as a modern interpretation of Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf.
