As a new tracking week begins in the global music industry, some of today’s hottest stars score big debuts on iTunes, which is common for Fridays. Amidst a slew of just-dropped tunes from some of the most exciting young names in pop, rock, and R&B, Madonna also proves her continued popularity. The superstar’s “Right On Time (Original Demo Edit)” nearly becomes a top 10 bestseller as it enters the iTunes Top Songs chart at No. 13.
The track previews an upcoming EP from the pop icon that’s expected later this fall, and since many Madonna diehards have been waiting decades to hear the cut – and any piece of previously-unreleased material from the Material Girl herself is always news – it’s no surprise that it’s become a quick bestseller.
Madonna’s New Song “Right on Time”
“Right On Time” serves as a preview of Madonna’s forthcoming EP Bedtime Stories: The Untold Chapter. The eight-song set is coming on November 28, when it will be available digitally and on multiple vinyl versions.
The set commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of her album Bedtime Stories, Madonna’s sixth full-length. It comes a bit late, though, as Bedtime Stories was released in 1994 — which means it’s now 31 years old.
“Right On Time” Was Left off Madonna’s Bedtime Stories
“Right On Time” was written by Madonna and super-producer Dallas Austin during the original Bedtime Stories sessions. The cut was left off the full-length tracklist and has been sitting in a vault ever since, and it sounds like a perfect fit for that moment in music and that time in Madonna’s career.
Madonna Competes With Jisoo, Zayn and Taylor Swift
Currently on the iTunes Top Songs tally, several major stars score high-profile debuts. Sitting just a few spaces above Madonna, Blackpink’s Jisoo and former One Direction singer Zayn land one of the loftiest starts this tracking frame with “Eyes Closed,” which enters at No. 3. Alternative folk outfit Of Monsters and Men claims the runner-up spot with “Fruit Bat,” which misses out on No. 1 — currently owned by “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters — by just one space. Several other well-known figures like Demi Lovato and even Taylor Swift, whose single “The Fate of Ophelia” has finally become available apart from the album it’s featured on, The Life of a Showgirl, also break into the top 10.
Bedtime Stories: The Untold Chapter Showcases Rare Madonna Recordings
Bedtime Stories: The Untold Chapter features demos, alternate takes on familiar cuts, and rare recordings from the original studio sessions for the album. Some of the selections included on the EP, like slightly-varied versions of “Secret” and “Human Nature,” are already familiar to fans, while others — such as “Right On Time” and fellow abandoned tune “Love Won’t Wait” — have been waiting decades to finally see the light of day.

By the time Madonna shared Bedtime Stories in the fall of 1994, she was already one of the most successful and forward-thinking pop artists in the world. She had made a name for herself on the charts and as a controversial figure, but one that the public couldn’t stop watching and listening to. Bedtime Stories peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified triple platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), as it has shifted three million equivalent units in the United States alone.
What Singles Come From Madonna’s Bedtime Stories ?
Bedtime Stories produced some of Madonna’s most iconic hits of the, including the first two promotional cuts, “Secret” and “Take a Bow.” Of those, “Take a Bow” added to her growing list of No. 1s on the Hot 100, while “Secret,” which introduced the set, peaked at No. 3. Somewhat surprisingly, the full-length’s title track and “Human Nature” missed the top 40, although both settled just underneath that region and remain fan favorites to this day.
