Selena Gomez has had a lot to celebrate recently. Her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building is one of the most popular shows around the world, and she recently tied the knot with her now-husband, producer Benny Blanco.
Just days after sharing wedding photos, the singer and actress scores a new hit on the Billboard charts in America as she joins Cardi B on “Pick It Up.” The tune has turned out to be not just another win for the superstar, but her first on a handful of American tallies she’s never reached before.
“Pick It Up” Introduces Selena Gomez to Billboard’s Rap Charts
“Pick It Up” debuts on three of Billboard’s rap-specific charts this week. Gomez collects her first wins on the genre-focused tallies as the collaboration arrives. “Pick It Up” opens at No. 4 on the Rap Streaming Songs chart, No. 7 on the Hot Rap Songs tally, and No. 8 on the Rap Digital Song Sales roster.
Cardi B Remains a Rap Charts Fixture
While “Pick It Up” introduces Gomez to the rap tallies, Cardi has long been a fixture on the lists. Multiple tracks from her just-released new album Am I the Drama? appear on all three rankings this frame, where she has now scored dozens of top 10s and perhaps dozens of additional wins.
“Pick It Up” marks her milestone fiftieth smash on the Hot Rap Songs chart, and she almost matches that sum on the Rap Digital Song Sales list, as she’s now up to 49 successes. Cardi has collected 43 placements on the Rap Streaming Songs tally throughout her career, including this latest smash.
How “Pick It Up” Adds to Selena Gomez’s Hot 100 Career Total
In addition to making it to several of Billboard’s rap-only tallies, “Pick It Up” also manages to appear on the Hot 100 this week. The cut narrowly fails to become a top 40 success, as it begins its time at No. 45. In a strange bit of almost-coincidence, Gomez collects her forty-sixth career entry on the ranking of the most consumed songs in America.
Cardi B Floods the Hot 100 This Week
Gomez only appears on the Hot 100 with “Pick It Up” this week, while Cardi dominates the list. 16 tracks from Am I the Drama? appear on the busy tally, and 14 of them are debuts. Two singles from the full-length grow, with “Imaginary Playerz” reappearing at No. 66 — hitting a new high as it rebounds onto the tally — while “Outside,” a former top 10 success, leaps from No. 93 to No. 42.
Collaborations Like “Principal” and “Pick It Up” Fuel Cardi B’s Hot 100 Success
Cardi’s Am I the Drama? helps several superstars find their way back to the Hot 100, and like Gomez, many of them are female powerhouses. Collaborations with performers like Kehlani, Summer Walker, Lizzo, and even Janet Jackson all debut this time around.
Jackson is credited as a featured vocalist on “Principal,” even though the cut is based around a sample of her single “The Pleasure Principle” from back in the ’80s. As “Principal” arrives, Jackson makes history and joins both Cher and Madonna as the only female artists in U.S. history to score new Hot 100 wins in at least five decades.
Selena Gomez’s New Collaboration Becomes a Global Win
“Pick It Up” also manages to break onto two additional Billboard rankings this frame. The cut launches at No. 28 on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart and starts at No. 157 on the Billboard Global 200.
Selena Gomez Balances Rap and Latin Success With “Ojos Tristes”
While “Pick It Up” helps Gomez collect her first rap successes in America, she continues to live on several of Billboard’s Latin lists. Her Spanish-language single “Ojos Tristes,” which also credits Blanco and The Marías, holds at No. 23 on the Latin Airplay chart and climbs one space to the third rung on the Latin Pop Airplay tally.
“Ojos Tristes” has previously conquered both rankings and is featured on her collaborative album I Said I Love You First with Blanco. That set debuted in March of this year and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 — a rare miss for the singer.
Am I the Drama? Cements Cardi B’s Dominance
Am I the Drama? is a quick No. 1 across a variety of Billboard charts this week. The set helps Cardi double her total number of champions on almost every tally on which it appears, including the Billboard 200, Top Album Sales, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and Top Rap Albums rankings.
The project was finally unveiled seven years after Cardi released Invasion of Privacy, her debut full-length, which was also a No. 1 on many rosters. That project turned her into a global powerhouse and a Grammy winner, as it collected Best Rap Album while also snagging a nod for Album of the Year.
