Aster Faces Volatility as Binance Listing Collides With DeFiLlama Data Suspension

Aster (ASTER), one of the most hyped altcoins of the week, faced a rollercoaster of events that shook investor sentiment.

The token made headlines after being listed on Binance, but the celebration was short-lived as decentralized analytics platform DeFiLlama suddenly halted its tracking of Aster’s trading data over concerns of suspicious activity.

The day began with excitement as Binance opened trading for Aster against USDT, USDC, and TRY – an achievement that typically signals credibility and attracts fresh liquidity. Within hours, however, DeFiLlama’s co-founder 0xngmi revealed that Aster’s futures trading volumes showed an “unnatural pattern,” nearly identical to the volume of Binance’s own perpetual contracts. Such a one-to-one correlation raised red flags about potential wash trading, where fake transactions are executed to inflate market activity.

DeFiLlama noted that Aster’s platform doesn’t disclose granular data on order creation or execution, making it impossible to verify whether the activity is genuine or automated. The analytics team therefore removed Aster’s trading volume data until more transparency is provided. The announcement triggered a swift reaction in the market – ASTER’s price plunged close to 10% as traders processed the mixed signals.

Amid the speculation, Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao clarified his relationship with the project after rumors suggested deeper involvement. CZ stated that he acts only as an advisor and has no formal role in Aster’s development, though he acknowledged that the project’s growth contributes positively to the BNB ecosystem despite being a direct competitor in certain DeFi sectors.

The situation leaves Aster in an uneasy position: celebrated for landing one of the industry’s most coveted listings yet scrutinized for a lack of data transparency. Whether the project can address these concerns and rebuild confidence may determine if it remains a rising DeFi contender – or a case study in how fast hype can turn into hesitation.
