Netflix’s hit dating show Love Is Blind is as unconventional as they come. Thirty-two singles, unlucky in love, agree to date one another in tiny pods where they can’t see each other. The experiment is designed to emphasize the contestants’ emotional connection rather than their physical attraction.
Sometimes the show succeeds (nine couples have married and are still together today), but more often it doesn’t. Some contestants fail to make connections in the pods, and for those who do — and whom production selects to continue — the real challenges begin on the outside.
After getting engaged and jetting off to a tropical destination, the couples return home to live together in temporary apartments. They meet each other’s friends and families, plan a wedding, and just a few weeks later are expected to stand at the altar and say “I do” or “I don’t.” It’s a lot of pressure with an extremely quick turnaround, and loved ones are often skeptical of the process.
The first six episodes of Love Is Blind Season 9 dropped on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Set in Denver, several contestants got engaged and left the pods to begin their journey in the “real world.” But two singles exited the experiment without explanation, just as they were beginning to form deeper connections with other cast members.
So, what happened to Love Is Blind Season 9 contestants Anna and Blake? Why did they leave the show so early, and are they together now? Here’s everything Netflix has revealed since their mysterious departure from Season 9.

Anna, a 28-year-old hairstylist from Denver, entered Love is Blind seeking a partner who could calm her mind, as she tends to overthink things, she told Netflix. As she got to know various men, she formed quick connections with Patrick and Blake.
In Episode 3, Patrick waits for Anna during their scheduled date, but she never shows up. He eventually learns that she left the dating competition entirely. Anna later explained to Tudum that she departed Love is Blind because the emotional connections in the pods became too overwhelming for her, among other reasons.
“I started seeing myself being pretty vulnerable, and it scared me a little bit because this is an intimate part of my brain. These are very sensitive topics for me,” she explained. “It’s not that I’m just sharing it with whoever I’m dating or the other women — this is going to be broadcast for people.”
She also began to question whether the experiment was truly worthwhile and worried about how her decisions might impact her family. Neither of her parents understood reality television or understood what was happening in the pods.
“With my parents being immigrants and having a language barrier, I’ve always naturally been their helper,” she continued. “When I told them, ‘Hey, Mom and Dad, I’m going on this show, they’re going to take my phone, they were like, ‘Are you being kidnapped?’
Even though Anna explained to them why she couldn’t be in contact during the initial phase of the experiment, she couldn’t shake the feeling that her parents were concerned about her well-being.
The night she decided to leave, Anna said she broke down in tears and felt guilty for taking a spot that could have gone to someone who might have found their perfect match in the pods. “I was a wreck,” she admitted. “My eyes were almost swollen shut from crying. I was embarrassed.”

Blake, a 34-year-old accountant, also came on the show to find love in Season 9. He was getting to know numerous women, including Anna. When production informed Blake that Anna had left, he said he wasn’t upset, but somewhat concerned about her.
“At that point in the experiment, Anna and I hadn’t talked about a proposal or an engagement. It certainly felt like we weren’t close to that,” Blake told Netflix. “We certainly had a good bond and friendship. I don’t want to speak for her, but I think she made the right decision for herself at the moment, and I’m proud of her for doing that.”
Ultimately, like Anna, Blake began to realize that the experiment was not going to work for him.
“Sometimes I’m practical to a fault, and as the days ticked on, I just realized that a proposal wasn’t in the cards for me,” he explained. Blake added that once he realized he had to leave, he felt that the right thing to do was to remove himself.

Although Anna and Blake both left Love is Blind Season 9 early in the season, the singles — who were interested in one another in the pods — are not together today. Blake also clarified to Tudum that his decision to leave was not influenced by Anna at all.
Before he left, Blake was also dating Megan. But telling her he was excited about the show wasn’t even on his radar. In the moment, he said, “I was almost exclusively concerned with where my head was at, my emotional state, and I really thought I was doing the right thing.” He continued, “So I didn’t play that out, which feels clumsy and foolish. If I could go back, I definitely would change that.”
As for Anna, producers did ask her if she wanted to go on a pod date to let Patrick know she was leaving the show, but she said she didn’t want to be on camera anymore. She still defends her decision today, knowing it was the best for her at the time.
“I don’t think I regret it because I don’t think the connections were strong enough to have a successful marriage from there.”
