Meanwhile, last week’s Bollywood release Jolly LLB 3 posted a decent first week collection at the global box office.

Indian film on Comscore’s global top ten list for fourth consecutive week

Indian films are on a roll for the past one month. After Madharaasi, Mirai, and Jolly LLB 3, the Telugu film They Call Him OG has now made it to global top ten list of films scoring highest across the globe over the weekend.

The latest weekend – ending September 28 – was the fourth week in a row when an Indian film made it to Comscore’s weekly list of films grossing the highest worldwide for a weekend. AR Murugadoss’ Madharaasi kickstarted the trend which was followed by Karthik Gattamneni’s Mirai. Last week, the Bollywood comedy Jolly LLB 3 also ranked on list. Sujeeth’s directorial They Call Him OG is the fourth and latest one to make it to the list.

They Call Him OG

Kalyan’s latest film They Call OG made more than $2 million in paid previews before it released in theatres in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada languages. The opening collection of They Call Him OG crossed $11 million in India and the score was above $16 million at the global box office.

In the North American market alone, the film crossed $5 million by the weekend. It had an extended, four-day weekend as the film released on Thursday, September 25. The Telugu version of the film has had the maximum contribution to the total collection figure, with other languages lagging far behind. By the end of its first Monday, They Call Him OG is expected to cross $30 million worldwide collection.

Set in the Indian city of Mumbai, They Call Him OG traces a gangster (Kalyan) who returns to the city after a decade to confront his former rival, another gang lord (essayed by Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi). The Telugu film is written and directed by Sujeeth (Run Raja Run, Saaho). Apart from Pawan Kalyan and Emraan Hashmi, They Cal Him OG also stars Priyanka Mohan, Sriya Reddy, and Prakash Raj.

Jolly LLB 3

After an interesting opening weekend at the ticket windows worldwide, Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 3 slowed down over the weekdays and closed the first week at an average figure. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the film grossed $12.7 million in its first week. It crossed $13 million by the end of its eighth day. When it hit theatres last week, Jolly LLB 3 made opening gross collections of $2.2 million worldwide and closed the first weekend at nearly $10 million global gross.

Jolly LLB 3 features Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, and Amrita Rao along with Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. The film is Kapoor’s third in the franchise which shows a mirror to the legal, judicial and societal flaws in the contemporary society through a story peppered with comedy. The first film, Jolly LLB was a surprise hit, and Arshad Warsi became an instant star. The second film brought in Akshay Kumar and the third one brings both the actors together.
