It’s not quite Sunday yet, but the Sunday Mini Crossword is here. This is a somewhat slimmer crossword than Saturday’s, but I actually found it a bit harder. That’s just bad luck (or good luck, since I basically knew everything in yesterday’s) and sometimes my lack of pop culture knowledge sets me back. In any case, read on for hints and answers.

The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.

Where I got stalled by in today’s Mini: 1-Across. I was thinking of making chicken to eat, not making someone a chicken by scaring them. 2-Down. I don’t know anything about Playboi Carti, but I’m curious about all the Carti’s and Cardi’s and Lil XY and Z’s. Hip-hop naming trends are well outside my wheelhouse. These slowed me down enough that today’s Mini took me a whopping 1:27. Oof.
