My Life with the Walter Boys
Netflix
There are some days where you can all but guarantee that even a well-performing #1 series is going to fall down Netflix’s top 10 list, and today is one of those days.
Despite another solid run here in season 2, My Life with the Walter Boys is down to #2 in favor of the return of Wednesday season 2 part 2, which arrives a month after part 1 and will finish this year’s school storyline that involves the return of a dead season 1 character, the rampage of a season 1 villain and somehow, Lady Gaga.
To date, Wednesday season 2 has been trailing a bit behind Wednesday season 1 in terms of viewership, but it’s a different format because it’s been broken in half. It stands to reason that this way of releasing shows is going to result in more of a drop-off than we would see otherwise with a standard binge release, but Netflix believes this is worthwhile in order to get viewers to subscribe for two months to watch its biggest shows. They are pushing their luck by spacing out Stranger Things season 5 into three different months, which is about as ridiculous as you’re going to get.
My Life with the Walter Boys and Wednesday have already both gotten renewed for season 3, before their season 2s even aired. My Life with the Walter Boys had just over a year and a half between seasons, so it stands to reason that may end up being the gap again. Wednesday had a stunning, nearly three-year break between seasons. We know it will start filming this spring, so at the very least, this is supposed to be down to a year and nine months or two years, worst case scenario. That three-year break may have been the main reason that viewership isn’t at season 1 levels, though that may change with the release of Part 2 here. And it’s not like the show still isn’t one of the biggest series on Netflix. It also has a torch to carry, given that both Squid Game and Stranger Things are about to end.
It stands to reason that Wednesday is going to remain atop the Top 10 list for quite a while, given that millions of viewers are going to stick around to finish these episodes, but with just four episodes in total, that will cause it to drop sooner than it would otherwise. But I would in no way expect My Life with the Walter Boys to take its place.
