Green Bay Packers Running Back MarShawn Lloyd Is Sidelined — Again

If it wasn’t for bad luck, MarShawn Lloyd wouldn’t have any luck whatsoever.

Lloyd, a second year running back for the Green Bay Packers, hasn’t been able to stay on the field in his brief NFL career. And that will be the case again.

Lloyd suffered a hamstring injury in the Packers’ 23-19 win over Indianapolis Saturday. On Sunday, Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur said Lloyd would “miss some time.”

Lloyd, a third round draft pick in 2024, was expected to be a vital cog in the Packers’ offense this season. Instead, his availability for Green Bay’s Week 1 game against Detroit is now up in the air.

“I don’t know what to make of it other than the fact that he’s had to fight through a lot of adversity,” LaFleur said of Lloyd. “And, you know, hopefully he can rebound from this and we can get him back at some point in time.”

Lloyd played in just one game — and 10 total snaps — during a frustrating rookie season.

Lloyd missed the Packers’ 2024 season opener with a hamstring injury. Then after playing in Week 2, Lloyd spent seven weeks on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury.

When Lloyd finally appeared ready to return, he suffered an emergency appendectomy and missed the rest of the season.

This summer, Lloyd suffered a groin injury on July 28 and missed the following two weeks.

Lloyd practiced last week, but injured the hamstring Saturday while making a 33-yard reception.

Lloyd beat linebacker Austin Ajake on the play, was slow getting up after he was tackled, then reported tightness in his hamstring.

Lloyd’s catch and run showed why Green Bay used a valuable draft pick on him. The problem is, plays like those have been few and far between with Lloyd primarily on the sideline.

“He has shown a skill set and play making ability, because that was, I mean, that was a heck of a play,” LaFleur said. “It was great throw, a really nice catch, but it’s, it’s just unfortunate.

LaFleur was asked if Lloyd could be doing anything differently? Or if this is simply bad luck.

“I mean, those are my questions to our medical staff all the time,” LaFleur said. “Is there anything else that we could be doing or he should be doing? He’s in great shape. It’s just, I think you got to chuck it up to some bad luck.”
