Michael Jackson’s Album Returns To The Top 10 For The First Time In 15 Years

This week in the United Kingdom, only one title debuts inside the top 10 on the Official Albums chart, as Renee Rapp’s Bite Me launches at No. 1. The list, which ranks the most consumed projects in the country, can sometimes be flush with just-dropped projects from superstars, while in other instances, a lack of competition makes way for classics and recent favorites to soar back into the highest region.

Several years-old collections find their way back to the top 10 this frame, and Michael Jackson mounts a comeback – the kind that hasn’t been seen from the late superstar in a long time.

Jackson’s The Essential compilation rebounds into the top 10 on the Official Albums chart. The set, which features dozens of his most famous tracks, rockets from No. 19 to No. 10 on the competitive tally.

Michael Jackson Hasn’t Hit the Top 10 in More Than 15 Years

The Essential has now spent 15 weeks inside the top 10 since its arrival more than 20 years ago. Jackson’s compilation hasn’t been seen inside the uppermost tier since September 2009. That year, millions of people all around the world consumed his work in incredible numbers following his sudden and tragic passing.

The Essential had been missing from the Official Albums chart for years by that point, but once the news of his death spread, the title shot to No. 1 for the first time. The set spent seven frames leading the charge before it slowly began descending.

The Essential Hits the Top 10 on Several Charts

Jackson’s compilation has racked up 218 weeks on the Official Albums chart. These days, it regularly appears inside the top 20 and can almost always be found somewhere between Nos. 1 and 40. The project likely sells fairly well at the moment, especially for a decades-old title, but streaming activity is largely to thank for its continued success on the U.K. rankings.

As it ascends into the highest tier on the Official Albums chart, The Essential also finds its way back to the same region on the Official Albums Streaming tally. This frame, the project jumps from No. 14 to No. 9, nearing its all-time high of No. 7.

Michael Jackson’s Biggest Singles

The Essential features Jackson’s singles largely in chronological order. The European version begins with “I Want You Back,” featured on the album Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5. The project continues into eras like Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous, and ends with “You Rock My World,” a single pushed from Invincible, the superstar’s final proper album.
