Chappell Roan Earns Her First No. 1 Debut

Chappell Roan’s new single “The Subway” was one of the most highly anticipated pop releases of the year. Now that it’s here, fans have wasted no time turning it into a global success. The track opens in high positions on charts in several countries and races to No. 1 in the United Kingdom, where the Grammy winner has quickly become one of the most exciting newcomers in recent memory.

Chappell Roan’s Second Career No. 1

“The Subway” launches atop the Official Singles chart. That tally ranks the most popular tunes in the U.K. regardless of genre, length, or language, and it uses a methodology that blends both sales and streaming activity.

Roan earns her second career No. 1 on the main songs tally across the Atlantic as “The Subway” debuts. She previously ruled the ranking with “Pink Pony Club,” which spent two weeks at No. 1 earlier in 2025.

Seven U.K. Hits, Five Top 10s

Throughout her career, Roan has pushed seven tracks to the Official Singles chart, and all but two have reached the top 10. A pair of cuts narrowly missed the summit, as both “Good Luck, Babe!” — her first charting smash — and “The Giver,” her most recent release before “The Subway,” stalled at No. 2.

“Pink Pony Club” Took Six Months to Hit No. 1

Unlike “The Subway,” “Pink Pony Club” took a long route to No. 1 on the Official Singles chart. The track, featured on her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, entered the tally in September 2024. It didn’t reach the top until March 2025, after Roan turned the fan favorite into a global smash via a high-profile performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Chappell Roan Also Leads the Streaming List

As “The Subway” starts at No. 1 on the Official Singles chart, it also lands on three other U.K. rankings. The track rules the Official Streaming roster, while it opens at No. 3 on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads tallies.
