Lil Wayne is only a few weeks removed from the release of his latest album, Tha Carter VI. That set arrived in early June and launched at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. As the music from his latest era begins to fade, the celebrated hip-hop superstar returns to several Billboard charts with an unlikely tune — one that sees him score not just another No. 1, but his first champion on a genre tally.
Lil Wayne’s Country No. 1
Wayne opens at No. 1 on the Country Digital Song Sales chart this week. The tally ranks the bestselling country-only tunes across America on digital download storefronts like iTunes and Amazon. He hits the top spot as a featured artist on the remix of Morgan Wallen’s “Miami.” That tune appears on Wallen’s latest massive full-length I’m the Problem, and while it was originally a solo cut, the country powerhouse recruited Wayne and fellow rapper Rick Ross to help reinvent the track, turning it into a multi-genre crossover win.
Lil Wayne and Rick Ross on the Country Charts
Wayne is brand new to the Country Digital Song Sales chart, as is Ross. Both musicians make it to the top spot on their first attempt. The hip-hop heavyweights also open in the runner-up spot on the Country Streaming Songs tally and break into the top 10 on the Hot Country Songs chart, where “Miami” rockets from No. 46 to No. 5. The tune goes from being a completely solo cut to a joint win for all three names.
“Miami” Soars on Multiple Rankings
“Miami” performs so well that it reaches several of Billboard’s charts that aren’t focused solely on country music. The track reenters the Streaming Songs ranking at No. 9, and now that it belongs to all three stars, Ross collects his sixth top 10 there and Wayne snags his sixteenth.
“Miami” also debuts in the same position — ninth place — on the Digital Song Sales chart thanks to 4,000 pure purchases, according to Luminate. Ross scores an eighth top 10 on the list of the top-selling tunes in the country, while Wayne has now nabbed 38 placements between Nos. 1 and 10 on the tally.
