As interest in Ethereum continues to grow, Standard Chartered has highlighted an emerging trend that could reshape how investors gain exposure to the asset.
According to the bank’s Head of FX and Digital Asset Research, Geoffrey Kendrick, buying shares in companies holding Ethereum on their balance sheets may offer more upside than U.S. spot ETFs.
Since June, firms adopting Ethereum as a treasury asset have acquired roughly 1.6% of the total ETH supply — matching the scale of holdings by newly launched ETH ETFs. Kendrick believes this shift makes Ethereum treasury stocks a compelling alternative for investors.
He points out that these companies now trade at just above net asset value (NAV), giving them an edge over ETFs by offering additional exposure to staking rewards and decentralized finance (DeFi) activity.
Kendrick further predicts that ETH holdings by public companies will continue to climb as more institutions explore crypto as a reserve asset. Given Ethereum’s potential to generate passive returns, he argues that these treasury-focused firms could grow faster and offer more value than ETF vehicles in the long run.
