Galaxy Digital is weighing the tokenization of its Nasdaq-listed shares, aiming to bridge traditional equity with blockchain markets.
Galaxy Digital is taking a bold step toward merging traditional finance with blockchain technology. In a recent SEC filing, the firm revealed it is actively assessing whether to tokenize its Class A common stock, potentially allowing shares to be traded on decentralized platforms.
The company has already partnered with Superstate Services—a registered digital asset transfer agent—to explore the feasibility of the initiative. Superstate, known for tokenized funds like USTB and USCC, launched its Opening Bell platform in May, enabling SEC-compliant stocks to trade onchain.
If the plan moves forward, Galaxy’s shares could become accessible to a broader pool of global investors, thanks to the 24/7, borderless nature of tokenized markets. CEO Mike Novogratz has previously expressed interest in integrating Galaxy stock into decentralized finance ecosystems, enabling activities like lending and secondary trading through blockchain infrastructure.
Still, the company acknowledges that this space is highly experimental. “There’s no guarantee that a liquid or stable market for tokenized GLXY will emerge,” Galaxy warned in its filing, citing the risks of lower liquidity and oversight on decentralized exchanges compared to traditional venues like Nasdaq.
Yet, with the tokenization of real-world assets expected to become a trillion-dollar trend, Galaxy’s early steps could signal a broader shift among public companies toward blockchain-based equity trading.
