Some child stars do everything they can to distance themselves from the projects that first brought them to fame, especially as they seek critical acclaim as adults. Miley Cyrus may have played the wild child for a while, but she never disparaged Hannah Montana, the Disney Channel series that turned her into a household name. She has actually embraced that chapter of her career, and as time has gone on, she seems increasingly grateful for it.
Recently, Cyrus appeared on SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio, where she hinted that she may be cooking up something to celebrate Hannah Montana’s twentieth anniversary, which is set for next year. While the Grammy winner is staying fairly mum about what exactly may come to pass, the mere idea of a special or concert of some kind was enough to help some of the fictional pop star’s most beloved tracks soar on Spotify.
Hannah Montana’s Songs Surge on Spotify
Spotify shared data showing that many Hannah Montana tunes enjoyed massive upticks in streams after Cyrus’s comments went viral. Seven tracks credited to the Disney Channel brand/musician saw their stream counts grow by at least 100% on July 29, compared to the average daily number of plays.
That roundup includes “I’m Still Good,” “The Best of Both Worlds,” “Life’s What You Make It,” “Who Said,” “True Friend,” “I Got Nerve,” “One in a Million,” and “Let’s Get Crazy.” The biggest growth belonged to “I’m Still Good,” which was up 145%, while both “One in a Million” and “Let’s Get Crazy” saw their stream totals double.
Hannah Montana’s Upcoming Anniversary
While on the radio interview, Cyrus opened up about the potential future for Hannah Montana, saying, “I want to design something really, really special for it, because it really was the beginning of all of this.” The singer has been frank about the fact that she has no real desire to tour, so an anniversary concert trek seems unlikely, but perhaps a one-off show or TV retrospective could be in the works.
