What Happened In The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 3?

In the last episode, Jeremiah officially gets down on one knee and proposes to Belly with a tiny engagement ring in his dorm room. They decide to keep their engagement a secret until they can tell their family in Cousins after Jeremiah’s mom’s dedication.

But Belly has to tell her best friend. She slips the news to Taylor, who, at first, isn’t exactly thrilled about their upcoming nuptials. Still, she agrees to keep the engagement a secret and eventually comes around, promising to help Belly with whatever she needs as her maid of honor.

Meanwhile, Taylor is still heartbroken over Steven ending their situationship after his car accident. Her mom’s attempt to bring them back together — by asking Steven to look over her accounting books — backfires when Steven reveals that her mom is in serious debt and will likely lose the salon.

Conrad doesn’t want to go to Cousins for his mom’s dedication, but Agnes encourages him to confront his feelings about Belly and Jeremiah. He ends up surprising them by showing up at the event. Since Belly’s dad isn’t there, they decide to hold off on announcing their engagement so the day can remain focused on Susannah.

But that’s not exactly how things play out. At dinner after the dedication, Belly becomes frustrated with how Jeremiah’s dad talks about him — mentioning that he has to stay in college for another semester and downplaying his future plans. Belly fires back, revealing that she and Jeremiah actually have big plans of their own. “We’re getting married… in August,” she announces.

Laurel immediately asks if it’s a joke, while Adam turns to Jeremiah and demands to know what he’s dragged Belly into. Steven also chimes in, asking if they’re being serious. Laurel then bluntly asks if Belly is pregnant, but Belly and Jeremiah both say no. When Adam tells Jeremiah he hopes he doesn’t think he’s getting his mother’s ring, Jeremiah replies that he didn’t expect it. Belly then shows them the small engagement ring instead.

Conrad sits at the table in silence as Laurel abruptly cancels the entire dinner. Belly and Jeremiah get up and storm out of the restaurant together, with Jeremiah insisting that everyone will come around eventually. Laurel pulls Belly into the car, and the group leaves separately. Conrad is the last to leave the restaurant, setting the stage for a very interesting and dramatic Episode 4.
