The inevitability of technological singularity

Humanity is on the verge of radical change. In the coming decades, an event will occur that will change the world forever — technological singularity.

Exponential growth in computing power and the improvement of algorithms will inevitably lead to the creation of AI that will surpass the combined intellectual capabilities of all of humanity. This is confirmed by research by Peter Denning and Ted Lewis on the laws of exponential growth in computing.

Predictions about the emergence of AGI have changed significantly in recent years. While it was previously expected that general AI would appear closer to 2060, the latest estimates — especially from entrepreneurs — shift the timeline to between 2026 and 2035.

My prediction: the probability of singularity by 2050 is 80–90%. Modern AI systems with RLHF often underestimate the probability of singularity, calling such predictions “speculative.” This is the result of a tendency toward skepticism and avoidance of “panic.”
