Marvel’s first family is headed to the big screen, again.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic reboot that shows the main characters juggling familial responsibilities with world-saving duties as a space god named Galactus plots to devour their planet. The movie is directed by Matt Shakman and stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn as the titular superheroes.

Ahead of the film’s nationwide release on Friday, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been receiving rave reviews, with critics praising the visuals and performances from the core cast.

Pedro Pascal As Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic

Pascal’s character is a brilliant scientist and the leader of the Fantastic Four, with the ability to stretch his body and limbs.

Pascal is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. He rose to prominence playing Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones and Javier Peña on Narcos. Shortly after, Pascal joined two other franchises: Star Wars and the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He starred as the titular bounty hunter of the Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian and played the villain Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984.

The actor earned two Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Joel on HBO’s TV show adaptation of the popular video game The Last of Us and played General Acacius in Ridley Scott’s 2024 Gladiator sequel. Most recently, he starred alongside Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans in the romantic film Materialists.

Vanessa Kirby As Sue Storm/Invisible Woman

Kirby stars as Sue, the wife of Reed and a member of the Fantastic Four. She has the ability to create force fields and manipulate light to become invisible.

Kirby made waves, and landed an Emmy nomination, for her portrayal of Princess Margaret on Netflix’s The Crown. For her role as a grieving mother in the 2020 movie Pieces of a Woman, she earned an Oscar nomination. Kirby is also no stranger to film franchises. She previously starred in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach As Ben Grimm/The Thing

Ben is Reed’s best friend and another member of the Fantastic Four. After a mission to space goes wrong, Ben transforms into The Thing, with rocky and rough skin.

Fans may recognize Moss-Bachrach for his Emmy-winning role as the temperamental but lovable Richie on The Bear, but long before to that, he starred as Desi on Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls. He also had roles on the TV shows The Punisher and Andor.

Joseph Quinn As Johnny Storm/Human Torch

Johnny is Sue’s cocky brother who’s also part of the Fantastic Four. He has the power to engulf his body in flames, control fire and fly.

Quinn’s role as Eddie Munson, a heavy metal enthusiast and leader of the Hellfire Club, on season four of Stranger Things marked his breakout role in Hollywood. Since his memorable performance on the Netflix sci-fi show, Quinn has starred alongside Lupita Nyong’o in A Quiet Place: Day One and played a tyrannical emperor in Gladiator II.

Ralph Ineson As Galactus

In the comics, Galactus is a a cosmic being who consumes planets.

Before portraying the Fantastic Four villain, Ineson played a Death Eater named Amycus Carrow in the Harry Potter film franchise. He also starred alongside Dev Patel in The Green Knight and had roles in two of director Robert Eggers’ films: The Northman and Nosferatu. Outside of film and TV, the actor has also done voice work for video games like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Final Fantasy XVI.

Julia Garner As Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer

Garner’s character, Shalla-Bal, also known as Silver Surfer, is a herald who warns the Fantastic Four that their planet will be consumed by Galactus.

Garner is perhaps best known for her performance as Ruth Langmore on the Netflix drama series Ozark, which ran for four seasons between 2017 and 2022. She earned three Emmys for her supporting role. Garner also received an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of convicted fraudster Anna “Delvey” Sorokin on the Netflix limited series Inventing Anna. More recently, the actor starred in the horror film Wolf Man.

Natasha Lyonne As Rachel Rozman

Little is officially known about Lyonne’s role in the film, but some reviews have spilled details about how her character fits into the narrative.

Lyonne has dozens of credits to her name as an actor, producer, and writer. In the ‘90s and early 2000s, she starred in the American Pie movies, Slums of Beverly Hills and But I’m a Cheerleader. Lyonne is also recognized for her Emmy-nominated roles as Nicky Nichols on Orange Is the New Black, Nadia Vulvokov on Russian Doll and Charlie Cale on Poker Face.

Paul Walter Hauser As Harvey Elder/Mole Man

In the comics, Mole Man is a supervillain who rules Subterranea.

After playing Shawn Eckhardt in the 2017 biopic I, Tonya about former figure skater Tonya Harding, Hauser received positive reviews for his portrayal of the titular character in Clint Eastwood’s 2019 film Richard Jewell. He then starred alongside Emma Stone in Disney’s live-action film Cruella and played real-life serial killer Larry Hall on the Apple TV+ miniseries Black Bird, which earned Hauser an Emmy Award. The actor also voiced the character Embarrassment in the animated film Inside Out 2.

Sarah Niles As Lynne Nichols

Lynne is the chief of staff of the Future Foundation and an ally to the Fantastic Four.

Prior to Fantastic Four, Niles played a therapist named Dr. Sharon Fieldstone on the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. She also starred in two other films released in 2025, F1: The Movie and Prime Video’s Heads of State.
