FC Barcelona Signs Premier League Star For First Team

FC Barcelona has effectively signed Marcus Rashford from Manchester United according to Spanish newspaper MARCA, which cited anonymous sources.

On Saturday afternoon in Spain, the Madrid-based outlet reported that Rashford “will be a Barcelona player next season”.

It added that the Catalans have reached an agreement with both the player and the Red Devils and just “the small details and the drafting of the contracts are missing”.

Rashford will head south to La Liga on loan initially, with an option to buy him outright at the end of the 2025/2026 season for a fee of $40.7 million (€35 million).

The 27-year-old will land in Barcelona in the next few days, and then pass a medical to go on a preseason tour of Asia on which his soon-to-be head coach Hansi Flick has already revealed the amount of players he will take.

Flick is currently working with a squad of 36 men and will cut nine to head to the Far East.

A good amount of those discarded will come from the group of 10 youngsters promoted from La Masia and the reserve team to train with the seniors, but a potential positional rival in Dro Fernandez has reportedly impressed the German and could feature in his primary plans.

MARCA further explained how the operation to sign Rashford “accelerated in recent days”.

The Mancunian was in a two-horse race with Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, who was believed to be the number one option for Barca after it failed to sign Nico Williams.

Lamine Yamal’s close friend and fellow Euro 2024 winner reportedly agreed to join the treble champion of Spain, only to ditch it at the altar and pen a 10-year extension with Athletic Club which left Sporting Director Deco and President Joan Laporta with egg on their faces.

Yet it appears to have been a case of second time lucky for Barca as per Rashford, who it tried to get on loan in January before its famous Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues hijacked a potential coup.

Fast forward to the summer, however, and Barca has finally managed to land the attacker it wanted capable of playing various positions on the front line.

Rashford can play in various positions for FC Barcelona

Most wanted for the left wing to provide relief for Raphinha, who could either be rested or also switch to the right to give Lamine a breather, Rashford might also be able to act as a central 9 in Robert Lewandowski’s absence for FC Barcelona.
