NEW YORK, NEW YORK – APRIL 15: Caitlin Clark poses with WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert after … More
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game will be without arguably the league’s biggest star, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.
On Thursday, Clark, who is in her second WNBA season, announced via the Fever that she won’t be participating in the All-Star Game and 3-point contest. She sustained a groin injury on Tuesday in the Fever’s 85-77 win against the Connecticut Sun at TD Garden.
In the Fever’s social media post announcing Clark’s All-Star absence, the 23-year-old said she plans to still be in Indianapolis and help coach her team in the game. WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert named Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes to replace Clark.
Clark was named as the captain for one All-Star team as it competes against the other team led by Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier. Both players finished as the top two fan vote-getters.
The All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC, which will broadcast the event for the third consecutive year. This year also marks the first time that the All-Star Game — which comes amid labor negotiations between the league and player union — will be live streamed on both ESPN+ and Disney+.
The weekend’s festivities are set to take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the NBA’s Indiana Pacers and Fever, which is the second most valuable WNBA franchise ($370 million) behind the New York Liberty at $400 million.
Meanwhile, the top 10 All-Star vote-getters, including Las Vegas Aces center and three-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson, New York Liberty guard and WNBA Champion Sabrina Ionescu and Dallas Wings rookie guard Paige Bueckers, were automatically named starters.
The remaining starters include Indiana Fever forward and 2023 Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston, Atlanta Dream guard and three-time All-Star Allisha Gray, Atlanta Dream forward Brionna Jones, New York Liberty forward and three-time WNBA Champion Brenna Stewart and Seattle Storm forward and WNBA Champion Nneka Ogwumike.
The 3-point contest participants include the Liberty’s Ionescu, the Dream’s Gray, Los Angeles Sparks guard and four-time All-Star Kelsey Plum and Washington Mystics rookie Sonia Citron. Gray won the event in 2024.
ESPN will broadcast the skills challenge and 3-point contest tonight starting at 8 p.m. ET ahead of tomorrow evening’s WNBA All-Star Game. Regular season play for the WNBA, which was the fastest-growing brand in professional sports in 2024, resumes Tuesday.
