Created by Dexter franchise executive producer and showrunner Clyde Phillips, Dexter: Resurrection Episode 1 reveals that Hall’s vigilante serial killer Dexter Morgan survived the seemingly fatal gunshot wound from his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), at the conclusion of Dexter: New Blood.

After Dexter awakens from a 10-week coma, he travels to New York City to find Harrison in a bid to make things right with his tormented son, who inherited his father’s serial killer tendencies.

Episode 3 of Dexter: Resurrection — which is titled Backseat Driver — will begin streaming on Paramount+ Premium (formerly Paramount+ with Showtime) on Friday, July 18, at 3:01 a.m. ET/12:01 PT. For cable users, Dexter: Resurrection Episode 3 will begin on Showtime on Sunday, July 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

New to the Dexter franchise cast for Dexter: Resurrection are Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater and Uma Thurman as his associate, Charley.

How Many Viewers Did ‘Dexter: Resurrection Episodes 1 and 2’ Get?

Dexter: Resurrection drew in 3.1 million viewers in its first three days of release on both Paramount+ Premium and Showtime, The Hollywood Reporter noted on Thursday.

By contrast, THR reported, the 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin — which stars Patrick Gibson as the young Dexter Morgan and Michael C. Hall narrating the series — had 2.1 million in its first three days on both platforms.

Citing same-day Nielsen ratings, THR reported that the first two episodes of Dexter: Resurrection averaged 221,000 viewers on Showtime, while 2.88 million viewers watched the debut episodes on streaming.

Paramount Global co-CEO and Showtime/MTV Entertainment president Chris McCarthy was thrilled with the viewership numbers.
