Altcoins Begin to Outperform, But Bitcoin Still Dominates the Market

Bitcoin continues to lead the crypto market with a strong 90-day performance, gaining over 40%.

Yet beneath the surface, a growing number of altcoins are quietly outpacing BTC’s returns—even as the broader market remains firmly in “Bitcoin Season.”

According to CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index, the current reading sits at 31 out of 100—well below the 75 threshold that signals a shift into altcoin-led momentum. Still, the list of tokens outperforming Bitcoin continues to grow, suggesting a brewing shift in capital rotation.

Notable altcoins such as PENGU, MOG, AERO, FET, UNI, FLOKI, PEPE, ETH, and AAVE have posted stronger returns than Bitcoin over the past three months. Memecoins, DeFi projects, and infrastructure tokens alike are showing signs of life amid BTC’s dominance.

This mixed landscape reflects a market where investors continue to lean into Bitcoin as a safe haven, while selectively rotating into altcoins with perceived upside. Until the Altcoin Season Index rises significantly, Bitcoin remains the anchor—but momentum in the altcoin space is clearly building.
