A time capsule filled with community submissions will be locked on July 30 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ethereum’s genesis block.
Ethereum will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a time capsule that will commemorate “memories, memes, predictions, art, and more” from the worldwide Ethereum community.
From June 30 until the capsule is locked on July 30, Ethereum aficionados are invited to contribute to the time capsule, with submissions secured by Shutter Network encryption until July 30, 2026.
Announced at the Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC), the Ethereum Time Capsule project’s controlling smart contract will decrypt submissions and immutably record them on Ethereum when it opens.
“Every builder, user, artist, and dreamer is invited to leave their mark: stories of building dApps, funny memories, alpha drops, timeless memes, project shills, visions for Ethereum’s future — even riddles to solve or hidden treasures to unlock in the future,” says the website.
Entries will cost 0.001 ETH, or about $2.50, with all funds raised going to Protocol Guild, a group that directly supports Ethereum development by funding Layer 1 research and development maintainers.
“The capsule guarantees that no one — not even the organizers — can access or alter the content before the reveal,” said the Ethereum Time Capsule’s new X account. “What you submit remains sealed until it’s time to unveil Ethereum’s collective memory.”
Loring Harkness, head of commercial at brainbot, a main contributor to Shutter Network, revealed on X that he had sealed a picture of all EthCC[8] speakers in the time capsule.
The Ethereum network, described by co-founder Vitalik Buterin in a 2014 whitepaper as a “next-generation smart contract and decentralized application platform,” has evolved to become the second-largest blockchain by market capitalization.
It has seen its share of controversy lately, with the Ethereum Foundation getting new leadership, a simplified development roadmap — scaling the L1, scaling blobs, and improving the user experience — and the recent Pectra hard fork that revitalized the community along with Ether’s price.
