As attention turns to the third quarter of 2025, one of the crypto sector’s most influential research arms has released its latest market outlook — and it comes with a reshuffled watchlist of digital assets.
Grayscale, known for its large-scale investment vehicles in Bitcoin and Ethereum, has unveiled a refreshed set of 20 altcoins it believes are worth tracking closely in the months ahead. The new edition of its quarterly “Top 20” list introduces two fresh contenders: Avalanche (AVAX), a high-speed blockchain platform, and Morpho (MORPHO), a rising name in the DeFi space.
These changes come as Grayscale drops Lido DAO (LDO) and Optimism (OP), which had featured in previous editions. According to the firm’s research team, the list represents a cross-section of innovation, scalability, and market momentum — rather than purely short-term price speculation.
“We’re always looking for protocols that combine utility, traction, and strong underlying technology,” said a Grayscale researcher familiar with the report. “Every asset on this list carries risk, but also represents a significant opportunity if the ecosystem continues to evolve.”
The updated roster spans a wide range of blockchain sectors — including AI, decentralized finance, infrastructure, and tokenized data — indicating a continued broadening of crypto’s core use cases.
Among the notable names still holding their ground are mainstays like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL), alongside newer players such as Hyperliquid (HYPE), Ethena (ENA), and Jito (JTO). The full list also includes protocols tied to tokenized compute, decentralized storage, and digital identity layers.

While Grayscale stops short of giving price targets or investment recommendations, its quarterly list has become a barometer for which projects institutional investors are increasingly watching.
With the crypto market entering a more mature phase and regulatory clarity improving in several jurisdictions, the assets on Grayscale’s radar may serve as a snapshot of where institutional focus is heading next.
