Mariah Carey debuts “Type Dangerous” at No. 47 on the Radio Songs chart, earning her first … More
For more than a decade, Mariah Carey was one of the most reliable hitmakers on American radio. The R&B and pop superstar churned out smash after smash, and radio programmers and DJs eagerly awaited anything new from the singer, knowing it was likely to appeal to a massive audience.
Over time, as is always the case, Carey’s power at radio dwindled. Recently, her success has largely been limited to her holiday fare. Thankfully, the chanteuse’s latest release has reversed that trend, and it earns a lofty airplay debut upon its arrival — the kind Carey hasn’t claimed in more than a decade.
“Type Dangerous” Debuts on Billboard’s Radio Songs
Chart
“Type Dangerous,” Carey’s brand new single, debuts at No. 47 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart. The ranking details the tracks that reach the largest total audience throughout a single tracking frame across all radio formats. Billboard notes that as it debuts, “Type Dangerous” earns the singer her first placement on the competitive roster in more than a decade.
Her last entry came in 2013 when she was joined by Miguel on “#Beautiful.” That tune ended up soaring to No. 17. Since then, it’s been staples like “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and other older hits (to a lesser extent) that have kept her on the airwaves.
Mariah Carey Scores a Milestone Radio Hit
As it arrives, “Type Dangerous” gives Carey her milestone fortieth career hit on the Radio Songs chart. That total includes 24 top 10s and 11 No. 1s. Several of her chart-toppers ruled for double-digit frames, including “We Belong Together” (16 weeks), “One Sweet Day” with Boyz II Men (13), “Dreamlover” (11), and both “Hero” and “Someday” (10 each).
Mariah Carey’s New Single Reaches Several Radio Lists
“Type Dangerous” is a quick success at radio, debuting on five different airplay tallies at the same time. The tune opens at No. 7 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay list, which is an incredible starting point for any track, as it’s relatively rare for cuts to open inside the top 10 on radio lists. The newly-launched track also becomes a quick top 40 win on several other charts, as it appears at No. 15 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart, No. 24 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay ranking, and No. 31 on Rhythmic Airplay roster.
