At the 214th Ethereum All Core Developers Execution (ACDE) call, developers aligned on major milestones for the upcoming Fusaka upgrade, while advancing a series of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) that aim to improve scalability, fee mechanics, and protocol efficiency.
The key outcome from the meeting, summarized by Galaxy’s Christine Kim, was the scheduling of Fusaka Devnet 2 for June 23. To proceed, at least three Execution Layer (EL) and three Consensus Layer (CL) client teams must be ready. Due to incomplete preparations, certain test scenarios will now roll over into Devnet 3, with the testing phase extended accordingly.
The Fusaka upgrade marks Ethereum’s continued progress post-Dencun, introducing changes that further refine Ethereum’s data handling and smart contract infrastructure.
Major EIPs Under Discussion
Developers reviewed a suite of EIPs tied to the Fusaka upgrade. Key proposals include:
- EIP-7594 (PeerDAS): Enables distributed data sampling, improving the handling of large-scale data (e.g., blobs).
- EIP-7825: Introduces a cap on transaction (gas) fees to limit user exposure to fee spikes.
- EIP-7918: Ties blob base fees directly to transaction costs, adjusting the blob market pricing model.
- EIP-7907: Proposes a significant reduction in smart contract code size from 256KB to 48KB.
- EIP-7951: Adds support for the secp256r1 elliptic curve, relevant for enterprise and regulated applications.
Other proposals touch on gas cost optimization, opcode additions, and block size constraints, signaling continued refinement of Ethereum’s performance under scale.
Road Ahead
With Fusaka Devnet 2 imminent and test plans expanding into Devnet 3, Ethereum’s development cadence remains steady. The developers’ focus on modular data scaling and fee predictability suggests Fusaka could introduce meaningful improvements for both rollup infrastructure and base layer users.
Further updates on client readiness and specific testnet milestones are expected as the Fusaka roadmap unfolds.
